Everton Hall Orientation Part 2

Orientation week was full of fun scheduled events! Friday though didn’t have as much going on at my hall so instead I met up with my Arcadia friends Skye and Rebekah and we went back to Mt Victoria where we climbed to the peak and also checked out some Lord of the Rings filming locations.

We got lunch in a restaurant built in an old boat. The food was delicious! Then I went up to the Botanical Gardens and called Marian and Irwin and my parents. It’s always so nice to catch up! My day ended with origami night in the hall. I was more experienced than most so I also helped some people out.

On Saturday I went with my hall to the Te Papa museum. I met a cool guy named Leo and we walked around the Gallipoli World War I exhibit and the natural science exhibit. The Gallipoli exhibit had these incredible huge models of soldiers with exquisite detail down to the hairs on the arms. They were apparently made at WETA Workshops (a special effects company in Wellington I’ll be touring later this semester).

For dinner, I heated up some of my rice and beans and joined my flatmates for dinner. I’ve still got a long way to go but at least the rice I made is eatable!

Sunday was Farmer’s Market day. I went with Skye and Rebekah and we bought some produce and then in the afternoon, I went to a terrarium making event at the hall. I hope I can keep this plant alive.

In the evening, we tried to cook pasta with homemade pesto thanks to ingredients from the market. It went surprising well and we went out for ice cream afterwards followed by watching the first half of the first Lord of the Rings movie in which we saw the locations we had visited earlier in the week!

After a fun orientation week, it is time for classes to begin.

  1. Wonderful! You make great friends so fast, and it looks like the dinners are getting both colorful and tasty. The origami is beautiful! I remember yours, of course, from long ago and not so long ago. The museum statues are amazingly realistic! Even their expressions.

    Love,
