Sydney Part 1

Late Saturday evening, I arrived in Los Angeles where I met up with Owen (who had flown in from Raleigh) and we began our adventure!

David and Owen on the plane to Sydney!

The flight to Australia was a long one but I tried my best to sleep as much as possible.

Finally we landed, grabbed our luggage and went through customs! We had made it to the other side of the world!!

The first day was a tiring one full of mistakes. I led us to the wrong address for our Air BNB (and we had to schlep all our stuff for a mile). Also, my phone which had our Air BNB key code died and while I had the charger, I didn’t have the adapter with me on the go. Luckily we problem-solved our way through the day including asking a bakery if we could briefly charge my phone there. We learned the Opal transit system and used both the trains and the above ground Light Rail.

We also visited the Sydney Opera House many times in the first few days- it’s in a gorgeous location with tons to do including exploring a botanical garden!

On our second day, we ventured out on the bus to Bondi Beach and went swimming!

And a trip to the beach would not be complete without Fish and Chips and a visit to the Fruitologist store where we bought lychees, passion fruit and mangoes all from Australia or countries close by!

Lychees – a new fruit I love

We’ve been enjoying our time here so far and we still have plenty of more exciting adventures to share! See you soon!

    The pics are terrific!

Bondi beach is famous. Usually I see pics of it filled with people! Is it not warm enough to attract swimmers? Other than you guys?

Food in Sydney is supposedly world famous – restaurants, that is. Lots of seafood different from ours.

We look forward to your further installments and send lotsa love

  3. Dear David,

Greetings from plain old Lexington to David in exciting Sydney! I was
finally able to see your attached photos although I have no idea how I
did it – certainly not in the usual way.

I am so delighted that Owen and you are having such a great time!  And I
am enjoying all that you write and send.  I used to love lychee nuts
(that is what they were called, although there was nothing that we ate
that bore any relation to a nut).  They used to be served in a Chinese
restaurant in Boston that I often ate at, as a “sprinkling” on sweet and
sour pork.  Yummm!  I haven’t seen them here in years, antedating the
pandemic.  I don’t know why.  I’m delighted that you like them.

Have you gone to a performance at the Opera House?  Is that in your plans??

I love – and miss you! – very much,

    Irwin
