Here’s a little update about the week of March 13th.
After an exhausting weekend of tramping, it was nice to be back in my flat. Speaking of which, here are some photos of what my flat looks like when you leave my room. Now you can better visualize where I live!

This week was the third week of classes and assignments are hovering in my future. I’ve got a Media Report I’m working on for my Media of New Zealand class, a Machine Learning project classifying wines for my AI class and a concept deck showing my planning for the children’s book I am making for my Visual Narrative class.

On Monday, I only had my Media of New Zealand class in which we had a guest lecturer whom used to work at the BBC. In the afternoon, I talked to my parents and grandparents to tell them about my tramping adventures!

Tuesday, I had AI class and my Media tutorial where I met a very nice Kiwi student. I am definitely meeting more and more people here! In the afternoon, I went to tramping club where they discussed last weekend’s trip and talked about future trips. They also told us where to buy the highest quality hiking gear which was annoying since I had just purchased all my gear…. That info would have been useful a few weeks ago! Oh well.
After the meeting, the group goes to a flat for a taco night so I went with Skye and another student we met at the meeting. I brought peppers as my contribution to the dinner. We all worked on cutting the peppers and more people showed up and started cooking the beans. I met yet another person who is in my AI class (I keep meeting people that are in it but it is such a huge class, I wouldn’t have known!)

Wednesday I had my Visual Narrative class and we had a different professor because my teacher was out sick. Our sub went over narrative structure because we are beginning to form our ideas for our trimester projects. I am writing a story about a kangaroo that moves from the Outback to Wellington and has trouble fitting in with all the little flightless birds that live here. When class finished, I went back to the comic book store which is like a street over and I also checked out some used book stores in Wellington. In the evening, Rebekah, Skye and I met up to get some ice cream at a delicious place called Duck Island Ice Cream.
On Thursday I only had AI class but I stayed on campus afterwards to go to the AI Help Desk for some advice about the current project using machine learning to classify wines. In the evening, I went on what the tramping club calls Weeknight Walkies. Basically, they just take you on a short hike in the Wellington area. This time, we went to Mt. Albert. It was gorgeous.

Friday was the day I headed off with my Arcadia group to Abel Tasman National Park for the weekend but I’m gonna save that for the next blog post. You’ll just have to wait.

Even you can get worn out a little! What a weekend and week! I assume your flatmates are now well, and it wasn’t anything bigdeal that they got. Glad you avoided it anyway.
Thanks for all the pictures! Helps to imagine you there.
Much love,
Marian

Dear David,
I LOVED it all – photos and text alike. Am I correct that the hall in
your flat has a blackboard and a container with chalk on its side? I
thought that was a great touch! See more below, on your copy to me (in
CAPS)!
And I love and miss you very much. The book is, by the way,
progressing. I sent in my changes/corrections to the page proofs and
just got the index to look over and the book cover draft to offer
comments on, which I did. Basically, I thought the cover was quite
attractive. Did I send a copy to you? If not, please let me know and I
will send you a copy.
Much, much love to you from me,
Irwin
